Autolithography

A tranfer* method used on lithographic stones whereby a drawing done on a special paper ( smooth paper with one side covered with size ) can be transferred by using autolithographic ink*. The paper (whose smooth side is drawn on) is applied to the stone, usually not a grained one, and wetted. Considerable pressure is then applied so that the ink sticks to the stone. The stone is then prepared in the usual way except for the fact that rather than using a roller it is best to rub up with a sponge and reinforce the image deposited by the transfer in this way. [* lithography, preparing].
