Calculation shipping costs Damco-Maritime
(sea freight) from Leiden to port in country of
destination.
The total shipping price is made out of four elements;
- Transport Leiden - port
Rotterdam.(road-freight):
-parcels 0-32kg (0-70 lbs)GLS (mail
service) rate: Euro 14,50.
-pallets. transport done by
Damco. Calculate the "volume weight" by using 1m3 =
333kg. (35 ft3 = 733 lbs). Check the rate in the table below. For
example; crate 80x120x170cm (2.6ft x 3.9ft x 5.6ft) :
Volume weight is 0,8m x 1,2m x 1,7m x 333kg/m3 = 543 kg. (2.6 x
3.9 x 5.6 ft x 733lbs/35ft3 = 1190 lbs). According to the
following table the road transport rate Leiden-Rotterdam is 65,--

- Bill of Lading + export
documents;
Per shipment Euro 30,-- (not per pallet or per
m3!)
- Loading in port Rotterdam;
Minimum Euro 23,-- Loading is charched at Euro 23,--
per 1000 kg (2200lbs) real weight. (do not consider
volume). For example; Loading costs for a 6m3 crate and a weight
of 1500 kg (3300lbs) are 1.5 x Euro 23.-- = Euro 34,50.
- Sea freight;
Calculated per m3. (To do a valid calculation the
weight should exceed 1000kg/m3, which is very rarely the case)
The rate is given per m3 for a specific destination, mostly in
US$. Check out the rates per
country here.
For example; a 6m3 crate, with a weight of 1500 kg, must be
shipped to Singapore. The rate is US$35wm (wm means "weight meter"
= US$ 35 per cubic meter, OR, if the weight exceeds 1000 kg/m3,
US$35 per 1000 kg).
The sea freight is then 6 x US$ 35,-- = US$ 210,--.
The total sum of the four elements gives the shipping price from
Leiden to the port in the country of destination. Sometimes rates are
given to a customs warehouse inland (for example Mexico City). The
shipping condition is always F.O.B. (Free On Board); which means that
the shipping price covers the transport from Leiden to the port or
customs warehouse in the country of destination. The literally
meaning of F.O.B. is "if the client paid for the goods and the
shipping, the goods are at his disposal on the vessel in the port of
the country of destination".
The will have to pay to the local authorities to unload the goods
from the vessel, the custom clearance, import duties and taxes if
applicable, and the transport from the port to the clients'.
