Description of Akua-Intaglio "Water-based" inks
"Water-based
Ink for Intaglio & Relief
Akua
Intaglio is a printmaker's dream come true.
Originally formulated for intaglio printmaking,
this ink can also be applied with a brayer for
relief printmaking, monotype, and collagraphs; and
it will print from any plastic, wood, linoleum or
metal plate.
Made with
Natural Binders and Light fast Pigments
Akua Intaglio ink is made with the highest quality
natural gum based binders. All pigments used are
light fast. They contain no driers.
Safer to
Use
Akua
Intaglio is safe to use without special
ventilation, toxic solvents or fireproof
containers. It is labeled non-toxic and conforms to
ASTMD 4236. Akua Intaglio ink cleans up easily with
a dry rag followed by soap and water.
Permanent
Prints
can be re-soaked immediately after printing if
handled carefully. Once the print is dry,
Akua-Intaglio is permanent.
Never Skins
or Hardens in the Jar
Ink
will never skin or harden in the jar or on the ink
slab, so no ink is ever wasted.
Easy to
Use
Wiping
the plate with Akua Intaglio is easier than wiping
oil-based ink. Less wiping pressure and time is
required.
Option To
Print on Damp or Dry Paper
Choose
to print on dry or damp paper according to what may
be best suited for your technique. Plates with
greater tonal value, deeply bitten or raised
surfaces require dampened paper. It may not be
necessary to dampen paper for shallow bitten plates
with high contrast images. Monotypes print best on
dry smooth paper.
""New" Stiff
and more Heavily Pigmented
Akua
Intaglio inks are stiffer and more heavily
pigmented than the original intaglio ink formula.
This new formula offers STRONGER BLACKS AND MORE
INTENSE COLOR with all the same great features as
the original formula. The new formula is available
in Hansa Yellow, Crimson Red, Phthalo Blue, Lamp
Black, and Carbon Black. If necessary, this new
stiff formula can easily be thinned to the original
loose consistency with the addition of Blending
Medium.
"Old
formula"
The
old Akua Intaglio ink is still available in Scarlet
Red, Quinacridone Violet, Phthalo Blue, Phthalo
Green, Yellow Ochre, Red Oxide, Vandyke Brown, and
Titanium White. This consistency is perfect for
silk aquatint and monotype brushwork. The original
formula mixes beautifully with the new formula to
loosen the ink and Transparent base to increase
transparency. With the addition of Akua Oil
Converter the inks can be made stiff. Available
now, while supplies last, at a bargain discount of
40% off list price.
More
Extensive Range of Colors
With
a more extensive range of 25 colors, Akua Kolor can
be mixed into the "new" or "original" formula Akua
Intaglio inks and Transparent Base to create
various new colors for intaglio or relief
printmaking. Adding Akua Kolor in small amounts
will not affect the consistency. Adding Akua Kolor
in large amounts will make a stiffer
consistency.
Akua Intaglio
and Akua Kolor are compatible
JUse
Akua Kolor in combination with Akua Intaglio. Akua
Intaglio prints well on top of Akua Kolor prints.
Their unique transparent quality makes them ideal
for overlays.
Easy to
Modify

consistency of Akua Intaglio ink may vary. It may
become loose when warm and stiff when cold.
Modifiers can be used to stiffen or loosen the ink
if necessary.
- To
