plate mark
In intaglio plate printing the pressure exerted by the press (via the plate) on the sheet of paper causes the paper to bear the imprint of the plate. As a consequence the sheet will show a depression of the size of the plate on the recto side whereas a relief of the same side will show up on the verso side.
