Above you can see an enlarged side view of the KM95R photopolymer plate.The number 95 refers to the thickness of the photopolymer in millimetres. The other letters refer to the type of carrier and other properties of the plate. The total thickness of the plate is 1.2 millimetres.The substrate is a thin steel plate. Dan Welden uses this during washing; he has mounted a magnetic plate on the bottom of the “wash basin”, which keeps the photopolymer plate firmly in place during washing. This is useful in flexography because the plate can easily be stretched around a printing cylinder.
