z-acryl tank with cover next to the tank | The Z*Acryl Vertical Etching Tank (developed by Mark Zaffron) is an ideal alternative to the horizontal acid tanks that are often used in graphic workshops. Compared to a normal acid tank, the vertical etching tank uses 80% less space. Also, the surface area of the etching liquid exposed to the outside air is much less, so that much less evaporation occurs.
The vertical etching tank is made of 6 mm thick polyethylene. It is shatter-resistant and its design has the following features;
- A lid that fits snugly over the tank to prevent unnecessary evaporation.
- A large capacity, so that two large plates can be etched simultaneously (45 x 60 cm) or several smaller plates.
- This vertical tank design not only saves space but also encourages the use of the safest and most accurate etchant; Iron Chloride.
- A separate base (50 cm high, 23 cm wide and 30 cm high) which makes the tank very stable.
- All normally common etchants can be used in this tank.
- Tank volume 15 litres. (4 gallons)
- A black plastic rim is included with which the tank can be built into a work table
