A waxen substance which exudes from the leaves and the green parts of the wax producing Copernicia, in Brazil. It is supplied in the form of small irregular light yellow flakes and is hardly soluble in solvents at room temperature; its solubility improves from 45°C onwards. Carnauba Wax is very resistant and bright and is added to other waxes to increase their melting point, hardness and glossiness.
Carnauba wax is a yellow-brown wax from the leaves of the carnauba palm (Copernicia prunifera), which occurs naturally in north-eastern Brazil. The wax is known as the queen of waxes. Carnauba wax is an important ingredient in cosmetics such as lipstick, eyeliners, mascara, eye shadow, foundations, blushers, creams and the like. Due to its high melting point, it was a necessary ingredient in lipstick for many years. In foodstuffs, it is used in: lubricants, on baked goods as a glaze, chewing gum, sweets, ice cream, fresh fruit and juices, gravies, sauces, processed fruit and juices, soft sweets and tic tacs.
