Storage of a leather roller.

It is quite possible that more damage is done to a leather roll by storing it incorrectly than by improper use. Rollers that are not being used should never be left on the inking plate, as they will flatten on one side. They should be stored in a rack or on a support so as not to strain the leather. Before storing, wrap the rolls with aluminum foil or a piece of plastic. Rolls that will not be used for a long time should be scraped clean and covered with mutton fat, another non-evaporating fat, and wrapped. If the roller is to be used again later, this layer must be carefully scraped off. Then carefully wash the roll with lithotine (replacement of turpentine), scrape it again and then immediately roll it in with ink.
