Users Instructions ImagOn Ultra photopolymer films

9. Direct Intaglio-Type

This technique involves drawing, painting, or placing objects in direct contact with the top surface of the ImagOn-coated plate. A variety of mediums can be used, India or drafting, oil sticks, litho crayons or pencils, or even a Toner-Wash. Some objects, such as lace, cheese cloth or feathers, need to be flat if you want them have a more articulated pattern, so place under the vacuum frame. Other objects, with greater relief, must be done on top of the vacuum frame as the pressure created by the vacuum could break the glass.

  1. Expose the ImagOn coated plate to an Aquatint Screen, unless you are doing a Hard-Ground type line drawing, then it would not be necessary.
  2. Draw on the surface layer of the ImagOn Mylar on the plate.
  3. Let it dry.
  4. Expose the plate. The denser the pigment or stencil the higher the exposure time.
  5. Remove the top layer of Mylar, and then do a standard development.

  6. The plate is then ready to print.
