Disassembly Instructions Rosin Dust Box SK-80.
Only available in English

  1. First "tag" or mark all parts and panels that are joined by screws. Our Rosin Dust Boxes are assembled by hand and must be re-assembled in precisely the same way as the factory assembly procedure. For example: panels from the right side must not be used on the left side.
  2. Remove the belt, the back upper panel and the rack (the rack must be slid out from the back). Then, remove the two (2) rack supports by removing support screws.
  3. Remove the hinged flap by loosening and removing the screws fastening flap hinges to the Rosin Dust box leaving the hinges fastened to the flap.
  4. Loosen two (2) M6 socket set screws on the two (2) pulley wheels with a 3mm Allen key (supplied to non-metric countries only). *Note: During re-assembly these screws must be tightened against the flat surface of the axle. Remove the two (2) pulley wheels.
  5. Loosen the eight (8) M6 socket set screws (with 3mm Allen key) holding the axles in place. These are located on the four (4) flanged bearing blocks. Make sure to loosen them enough (two or three full turns) to be sure they do not impede the removal of the axle. Important: Do not loosen the bolts fastening the bearing blocks to the aquatint box.
  6. Using a rubber hammer or a piece of wood between the axle and a steel hammer carefully tap the axle with the handle out, sliding it out from the front side of the box. Once you tap the axle out from one bearing make sure you file the damage made by the socket set screws before you attempt to slide it out the second bearing. Important: Do not use a steel hammer directly against the end of the axle.
*Note: Before re-assembly make sure you file all the points where the M6 socket set screws came in contact with the axle as any distortion in the shape of the axle will make it difficult to re-insert the axle through the bearing.
  7. Inside the box loosen and remove the three (3) M6 bolts that fasten the paddle to the main axle. * Note: - These components must be re-assembled in precisely the same order (see paddle assembly diagram). Remove the paddle (leaving the brushes attached) then remove the axle following the instructions in point #5. Important: Under no circumstances should the screws holding the flanged bearing blocks in place be removed or loosened as this might complicate re-assembly of the paddle mechanism.
  8. Again on the inside of the box, loosen and remove all screws holding the sheet metal forms in place. *Note: Keep track of the location of the different screws, as there are three different lengths. Using a Stanley knife cut through the bead of silicone between the sheet metal and the plywood. Remove the two (2) sheet metal forms lying at 45 degrees. Leave the half round form in place.
  9. Carefully lie the box on its back. To avoid displacing bearing blocks or damaging machine screws used to fasten the back of the panel, use blocks of wood to fill out the space between the box and the ground. Loosen and remove screws holding the front upper panel in place. Remove the front upper panel. Loosen and remove screws holding the front lower panel in place. Remove the lower front panel. Remove the half round sheet metal form. *Note: during re-assembly the half round sheet metal form must be inserted precisely at this point.
  10. Carefully flip the Rosin Dust Box on to its front side. Use wooden shims on all four corners to protect the exposed plywood from rough surfaces. Loosen and remove screws holding the lower back panel in place. Remove the lower back panel.
Lastly with the box in the same position, loosen and remove the screws holding the floor panel in place, including the four foot blocks. Remove the floor panel. Repeat the last step with the uppermost plate.
  11. To re-assemble the aquatint box reverse the order of the disassembly instructions taking note of the following details.

-Make sure re-assembly takes place on a clean even surface.
-Use existing holes made by the original screws, if there is no hole for your screw you have the wrong part in your hand or the part is not correctly positioned.
-Screws shorter than 1" or 25mm should not be driven in with a screw gun, use a screwdriver.
-All original screws must be driven in with a PZ2 tipped screwdriver or screwgun. If not available replace all screws (with the same lengths) and drive them in with the appropriate drivers.
-Remove any original silicone from all parts and reapply a new bead before using re-assembled Rosin Dust box.

  12. After re-assembly the paddle mechanism might need to be "fine tuned". Only a minimal amount of contact between the brushes and the half round sheet metal form is necessary to achieve the desired effect. At least one of the two brushes must make contact with the sheet metal form. The brushes can be adjusted by loosening the screws fastening them to the plywood paddle and sliding them towards or away from the half round form. Once the desired contact is achieved re-tighten all the screws (This last point applies only to Sk-80's sold after April 2002. For earlier versions use the three (3) M6 bolts holding the paddle against the axle to acquire the appropriate distance between the brushes and the bottom of the half round form.

Important: Incorrect adjustment of the brushes can be felt; turning the handle will be difficult or heavy as the brushes make contact with the bottom.
It can also be heard; a loud thumping sound will be heard as the brush comes in contact with the sheet metal. If one continues to use the box with this paddle setting damage to the paddle will occur.
