Burins are traditionally used to cut copper plates (engravings), but they are also very good to use for end grain wood engraving. The square burins are available in 01-12. The lozenge-shaped burins are available in no 22-28. They are made of high carbon steel. They are sharpened, but not honed. (honing = manual grinding operation with small whetstone and oil) Lozenge-shaped burins make, at the same width, a line deeper than the square burins. Square shape cutting edge makes a V-shape line as deep as it is wide. Total length 11.5 cm
