C.I. Pigment Blue 32. History and application: 16th century. Cobalt oxide is obtained by roasting cobalt containing minerals. This was then mixed with quartz and potash into a smooth, fused paste, then thrown into cold water, which disintegrated the blue particles; these particles were then ground to give smalt.
Used as a pigment. Transparent. Mainly used in oil and acrylic paints.

C.I. Pigment Green 7/ Pigment Yellow 42/ Pigment White 18/21. History and application: 20th century Derived from oxide yellow, phthalo green, lime and barium sulphate. Can be used in all techniques.

C.I. Pigment Yellow 43. History and application: Ancient .Siena is a natural mineral pigment. Originally from Siena (Tuscany, Italy), later also from Corsica, Sardinia, Germany, Spain and Asia Minor. br/>Can be mixed universally. Cannot withstand fierce heat.

C.I. Pigment Brown 7. History and application: Ancient. mineral pigments from France, Italy, Germany and Cyprus. A range of brown shades. ‘Burnt” actually means roasted, which is how umber acquires its chestnut brown colour. Can be used with all binders. Umbers rubbed in oil dry very well.

C.I. Pigment violet 15 History and application: 20th century .First made as blue, a synthetic replacement for Lapis lazuli. Thereafter, scientists developed special ultramarines in a range of colours. Can be used with all binders. Very light fast. Good coverage. Mixes well. Heat and weather resistant characteristics.

Derived from naphthol, azo pigment, calcium en baryta. Can be used in inks and all painting techniques. Also suitable for ceramics up to 180° C.
