C.I. Pigment Brown 7. History and application: Ancient mineral pigments from France, Italy, Germany and Cyprus. A range of brown shades. ‘Burnt” actually means roasted, which is how umber acquires its chestnut brown colour. Can be used with all binders. Umbers rubbed in oil dry very well.

History and application: 20th century Derived from phthalocyanine, organic pigment with lime and barium sulphate.Can be used in all techniques.

History and application:
Early 20th century
Derived from barium sulphate and lime.
Can be used in all techniques except fresco.

C.I. Pigment Green 7/ Pigment Yellow 1. History and application: 20th century .Derived from Hansa yellow, phthalocyanate green, lime and barium sulphate. Can be used in all techniques except fresco. This pigment can give bleed through in oil paints and so cannot be built up in layers.

C.I. Natural Brown 8. History and application: 16th century .A derivative of brown coal. Found in many locations, mainly excavated near Kassel and Cologne. Difficult to rub up with oil. Slumps less with addition of 2% beeswax. Transparent brown colour.

C.I. Pigment Yellow 40. Cas. Nr.: 13782-01-9  EINECS-Nr: 237-435-2. History and application: Early 19th century.Discovered in 1830. Inorganic pigment derived from cobalt metal. Can be used in varnishing techniques, all paint systems and fresco. Not recommended in acrylics. Related to harm reduction this product it is not orderable outdoor Netherlands.

C.I. Pigment White 5. History and application: 19th century. An artificial mineral pigment. The first to be made, ever. Can be used in steam paint, matt paint, glue paint, emulsion paint end casein paint. Very good colouring intensity. Also sometimes called whitewash. Light fast and heat resistant.
